There is a question I ask in almost every session. “And what is your one responsibility to carry here?”
The person goes quiet every time, because the question is unfamiliar.
Most of us have spent years becoming experts on what was done to us. We can name the parent who did not see us, the partner who did not choose us, or the workplace that did not value us. We hold these stories with remarkable precision, word of them may be true.
What I have watched, session after session: the story of what happened to you can be completely accurate and keep you completely stuck. Because accuracy of your memory is not the same as freedom.
The Confusion That Keeps Us Waiting
Most people avoid responsibility because they confuse it with blame. It asks, Responsibility looks forward. Blame and responsibility these are not the same conversation. Because you can hold both truths at once: This was not my fault vs And this is now mine to carry forward. I have seen people resist responsibility for years but let me tell you it means declaring yourself capable.
What Changes When You Take Responsibility
The shift happen in real time, and it never stops moving me. Because power returned to where it belongs. Take responsibility, and it all comes easier and your life becomes easier.
In Sanātana, there is a beautiful word for this: Kartavya — that which is yours to do. This is Alignment.
